Credit Repair - Your Client???

I have a question for the almost 56,000 real estate agents, the almost 9,000 loan officers on Active Rain and all of the consumers who read it. I will tell you in advance that I do have my own self-interest in mind when asking this question. Honesty is the best policy. My question is: “Why are not more real estate agents and loan officers embracing legitimate credit repair and recommending it to their credit challenged customers?
Pure and simple that is the question. In today's mortgage with the requirement for higher credit scores is this not a viable option? I would appreciate your forthright answers. There will be two other parts to this blog series. Part 2 will be a summary of your answers. Part 3 will be some facts and figures as to why you should embrace it and how you can embrace it to EARN yourself more money ($) and ultimately, fulfill your client’s dream of home ownership. After all I do not think at this moment in time any of us wants to tell or can afford to tell a prospect to Rent In Peace.
Thanks in advance for all of your great responses!

Ron, this is the thing...you haven't defined "legitimate" credit repair here.  This is my view...ONLY the actual principal, the person whose credit it is, has any right to take action regarding his or her own credit record.  That is to say, as far as I understand things, a third party is not allowed to work on anyone else's credit.

That said, every consumer needs to know what is in their reports and should learn how to communicate with creditors and credit bureaus to make certain that the reports are accurate.  Many creditors DO misreport items - not always in WHAT they report but HOW it is reported, for instance.  Education about consumer rights is also key - everyone can learn more about the FCRA and the FDCPA.

Finally, for anyone considering buying a home, the best course of action is to have your credit checked many months BEFORE you start home shopping, so that any inaccuracies can be worked on ahead of the game.

When you find a "legitimate" credit repair company, let me know. Many of them are unscrupulous in dealing with the general public They advertise such outrageous claims as:

  • "Credit problems? No problem!"
  • "We can erase your bad credit - 100% guaranteed."
  • "Create a new credit identity - legally."
  • "We can remove bankruptcies, judgments, liens, and bad loans from your credit file forever!"

They promise, for a fee, to clean up your credit report so you can get a car loan, a home mortgage, insurance, or even a job. The truth is, they can't deliver. Now, that doesn't mean that they're aren't good credit repair companies out there, and that some people truly need their help. However, only time, a conscious and conscientious effort, and a personal debt repayment plan will improve your credit report. And, you can dispute mistakes or outdated items on your own for FREE.

If you are still looking into "legitimate" credit repair, feel free to contact Credit Security Group in The Woodlands, TX - 281-857-6898.  They will work with clients to clean up the mess that the Reporting Agencies have done, as well as, anything that may have been reported in error by the Creditors.  I have used them several times in the past when I worked in the Mortgage Industry and they have a proven track record.

Hope this helps.
